TRAILER or TEASER ?
Who has never felt frustrated after watching a movie trailer because it actually told the whole story of the film itself? The trailer from Jim Sheridan’s Brothers is a relevant example as it gives away 90% of the script in two minutes time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLlpabVRnyc
Studios tend to find teasers more compelling as their short format is an asset in terms of marketing buzz and word of mouth.
When a trailer is a response to the viewer’s curiosity, the teaser creates it. This teaser from Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight does not show a single shot from the movie yet it makes an efficient “appetizer” and makes us ‘craving’ for more.
